Hawker Tempest |
Images in the Typhoon and Tempest directories were so placed because of their original file names, though in some cases the labels don't seem to be correct. If images here are misplaced and you know where they should go, please let me know. - Adrian |

tempest.gif | 87445 bytes | This is a Tempest MkII powered by a Bristol Centaurus MkIV (not hercules) engine.
This makes it very difficult to differentiate from a Fury (same engine
and nearly same aircraft). All Tempests have a 4-bladed prop. At the rear of the exhaust
the Tempest is "clean". The Fury has a longer nose and the joint to the fuselage does
not look as clean.
Thanks for all people who have helped identify this aircraft. |
tempest1.jpg | 57746 bytes | The first production Templest, JN729 (a Mk V, Series 1) on test from Langley, near Slough. It first flew in June, 1943, but by now its wing has become well scuffed by boots and the fuselage blackened by exhaust. b/w. |
