P-51s "Frenesi" and "Big Beautiful Doll" inflight

WWII P-51 "Frenesi" -
"Frenesi" was flown by then Lieutenant Colonel Thomas L. "Tommy" Hayes, and today
represents "Frenesi" as she was the day Tommy left Europe. This photo is from August, 1944, when Tommy Hayes left Europe.
Hayes was the Deputy Group Commander of the 357th Fighter Group, Eighth Air Force. He was the squadron commander of the 364th
Fighter Squadron. Prior to flying in Europe, He flew P-40s in the South Pacific downing two zeros. He then went to Europe,
training the newly formed 357th at Tonopah, Nevada and then took his men to their new base at Leiston, England. The 357th was
the first group in the Eighth Air Force with Mustangs. Then Lt. Col. Hayes flew 85 missions, nabbing 9 Germans in the
process. Tommy is considered to have been a bulldog as a leader. Of his many numerous accomplishments, Tommy led the first
raid over Berlin and was routinely in charge of leading all the Mustangs on their missions. Tommy Hayes retired from the USAF
as a Brigadier General. He still comes flying in Frenesi.

Big Beautifull Doll -
Lt. Col. John Landers, Commander of the 78th Fighter Group, based in
Duxford, England, is the scheme worn by Ed's Mustang, "Big Beautiful Doll". One of the more noticeable schemes on the
circuit, Ed's Mustang is also one of the nicest restorations.

This was shot during the first day of the Edmonton International
airport airshow. Alberta resident Ross Grady greets the crowd taxiing
back from his flying demo. Ross's P-51d Mustang wears its ex-Bolivian
airforce colours. Mr. Grady says this aircraft is a great way to turn
money into noise.
