Il-10 replaced Il-2 on production lines by 1944. Aircraft had a greater speed, maneuverability and armor protection than its
predecessor. Below 2000 meters the speed of Il-10 was only 10-15 km/h less that of Me-109G-2 and FW-109A-4. First Il-10s
appeared in the sky of the eastern front in October 1944.

Sturmovik Il-2. Altogether 36,163 Il-2s were produced between 1941 and 1944. Stalin's message to directors of aviation plants
producing Il-2 included: "Il-2s needed by Red Army as air, as bread". Il-2 were used in air-to-air combat against Ju-52s near
Dem'yansk and Stalingrad. Among defensive armament Il-2 had ten airborne retarded grenades AG-2.
